This is a 100% Plumbers Merchant–focused field sales role, representing a full and competitive range of plumbing products—valves, piping, push-fit, shower hoses, brassware, taps, and consumables. Approximately 75% of the portfolio is imported from China, giving excellent value and margin opportunities for merchants.
You will manage and develop a territory of around 275 spending and non-spending merchant accounts, worth £2.5m–£3m in annual revenue. Your primary responsibility is to grow sales, deepen customer relationships, and increase stock holding and product range penetration within each merchant.
Key customer groups include:
Independent Plumbers Merchants
Buying Group Members (PHG, IPG, etc.)
Regional and National Merchants (e.g., Wolseley, UK Plumbing Supplies, MKM, James Hargreaves, Huws Gray, Duftons)
A significant part of the role is building rapport at branch level—Branch Managers, Assistant Managers, Trade Counter Teams—and increasing advocacy for your product range. You’ll use activities such as breakfast mornings, trade counter events, and installer engagement days to drive pull-through with local plumbers.
A rapidly expanding, dynamic supplier within the plumbing and heating sector. The business is enjoying an exceptional 2025, with record-breaking months throughout the summer, and is currently tracking 25% up year-on-year. You’ll be joining at a time of high momentum, strong investment, and significant market opportunity.
Your background will come from plumbing, heating, or possibly bathroom products, with strong familiarity with the merchant environment.
You may currently be:
A Branch Manager or Assistant Manager in a plumbers merchant, ready to make the move into field sales.
or
An existing Area Sales Manager / Business Development Manager already selling into merchants for a manufacturer or distributor.
What you will bring:
A stable career history with evidence of growing revenue and developing accounts.
Strong product knowledge and credibility at the trade counter.
The ability to influence merchants to increase stock, broaden product listings, and recommend your range to installers.
Excellent relationship-building skills and confidence engaging with plumbers, buyers, and counter staff.
Energy, drive, and a consultative approach to territory management.
