Assistant Branch Manager; Plumbing Merchant

Role

As Assistant Branch Manager, you will support the Branch Manager in the day-to-day running of a busy plumbing & heating merchant, helping to drive sales, manage operations, and lead the team.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring the branch delivers excellent customer service, strong sales performance, and efficient operations.

This branch has 5 staff members and turnsover approx £2.5m. The branch has an excellent trade counter presence with lots of collections.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Branch Manager in running daily branch operations
• Drive sales, margin, and profitability in line with targets
• Build and maintain relationships with local trade customers, contractors, and suppliers
• Lead, motivate, and supervise the branch team
• Assist on the trade counter, handling enquiries, quotes, and orders
• Manage stock control, purchasing, and inventory accuracy
• Monitor KPIs, sales performance, and branch targets
• Ensure compliance with health & safety and company procedures
• Step up to run the branch in the Manager’s absence

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in a plumbing & heating merchant or builders merchant
• Strong sales and customer service skills
• Proven team leadership or supervisory experience
• Good knowledge of plumbing/heating products
• Commercial awareness (margin, pricing, targets)
• Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
